The social events include: a visit by bus to the Zagori and Vikos Gorge as well as a dinner party with food and wine.

Meeting Excursion The meeting excursion includes a bus tour to the beautiful and famous area of Zagori including the Vikos Aoos National Reserve.   Zagori is a network of 46 villages spread all over the mountains on the north east of the city of Ioannina. The villages of Zagori are famous for their unbelievable natural beauty, their unique architecture and their long history.   In the past, for a long period during the Ottoman Empire Zagori used to be an autonomous, self-ruled territory, but now forms part of the administrative district of Ioannina prefecture. There are lots of fine stone mansions, in the Ottoman style, which have been built exclusively of the local grey stone. At first glance, the houses are simple, austere structures and look alike, except for differences in size. However, their interiors are exquisitely decorated with frescoes, painted cupboards and elaborate wooden carvings on the ceilings.   The plants and wildlife of the region are also exquisite. Choughs, various thrushes, swallows and rock partridges are common ornithological sightings. You may also see some of Zagori's eight species of woodpecker, as well as wallcreepers, dippers, rock thrush, golden oriole, snow finch. The Vikos Gorge is one of the most breathtaking natural sites in Greece and one of the largest and finest gorges in the world. The gorge collects the waters of a number of small rivers and leads them into the Voidomatis which rises in the Gorge. The walls of the Vikos gorge, at about 1.040 m (3,120 ft) at places, are the steepest anywhere.

* The MEETING EXCURSION will take place on Sunday morning, May 11, and will include a visit to Zagoria Villages and Vikos Gorge. The bus will leave Epirus Palace hotel (the Meeting Venue) on Sunday morning at 8.00 am and will return to the hotel approximately at 12.45 pm. By taxi Epirus Palace hotel is 15-20 minutes (depending on the traffic) from the airport.
